My work is a map and composite of ideas, objects, perceptions and experiments. I am moved by the magic in the process of making art. My technique, developed in the late 60s, is a reductive process that incorporates pastels, oil, turpentine, pen and ink. I build up a surface using pastels mixed with oil and turpentine; and then erase it somewhat by rubbing off excesses and blending various layers. I use rags and towels instead of brushes. I have control of my image and color choices but do not have full control of what happens chemically as the pastels, oils and turpentime interact with the paper.. I am always surprised by the end results and am humbled by its own natural consequences.
